Manmohan wanted to honour Atal, PV

Sanjay Baru, former media advisor for Ex-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, said, that the former PM wanted to honour Ex- PMs  Atal Bihar Vajpayee and P.V. Narasimha Rao with Bharat Ratna during the second tenure of UPA government which lasted from 2009 to 2014.

Quoting to TimesofIndia.com, Baru said, Manmohan had always discussed this matter and was very much positive to award Bharat Ratna to the iconic personalities. But he added that nothing did not materialise after that. “Manmohan was ready to honour Vajpayee and P.V., but his ideas were never endorsed or backed by the Congress leadership. I don't know whether he discussed this with Congress high command or the issue was just shut down,” said Baru.

Sanjay Baru came into the limelight with his book 'The Accidental Prime Minister - The Making and Unmaking of Manmohan Singh,' which created a huge political storm. He described Manmohan as just a third person and every decision taken by the UPA government had the influence of Sonia Gandhi. However, the book was rubbished by the Prime Minister's Office and Congress too hit back at Sanjay Baru. But the former media advisor strongly believed that it was Manmohan's leadership that made UPA alliance to come to power for the second time and it was the ex-PM's mistake not to contest the 2009 Lok Sabha polls where he missed a chance to become a great leader.
