The Railway Minister expects total receipts of Rs 1,64,370 crore for 2014-15 year and expenditure would be Rs 1,49,000 crores.

Spend 94 paisa of every rupee earned, leaving a surplus of only 6 paisa.

Wifi in A1 and A category stations and in select trains. Internet-based platform and unreserved tickets.

Paperless office of Indian railways in 5 years. Digital reservation charts at stations.

Special milk transportation trains in association with Amul and National Dairy Association Board.

Proposal to start Bullet trains in Mumbai - Ahmedabad route.

Ultrasonic system to detect problem in track.

4,000 women constables to be recruited to ensure safety of women. 17,000 RPF constables to provide safety to passengers. Cell phones to all RPF staff

CCTV to monitor cleanliness activities.

Hike of fares will bring in Rs.8,000 crore but need another Rs.9,000 crore for golden quadrilateral project.

Committee to study pending projects in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Projects worth over Rs.20,000 crore are at various stages in Telangana and AP. They will be completed.

North - Eastern region to get 54% more funding in this budget. Rs 5116 crore

Railways will link all major ports through public private partnership [PPP].

Plans to set up a Railway University for both technical and non-technical subjects.

Increase per capita railways staff welfare fund from Rs 500 to Rs 800.
