The implementation of the High Security Number Plates at last could be got through by the Transport Department. It will be implemented from Wednesday on new vehicle registrations starting initially from 10 centers at Hyderabad.  Extension of it in other districts will be taken up gradually. 

The number plates will be fixed at the premises of the Transport department under the supervision of the officials. Once fixed, the number plate cannot be separated from the vehicle as any such attempt will simply break the plate and becomes unusable.

The Transport Commissioner G Anantha Ramu said that it is not possible to replicate, forge or steal the number plate once it is fixed and hence it makes it impossible to transfer it to other vehicle.  So it is totally tamper proof.  He said that the tracing of the lost vehicles will be easy at night also as it is visible in the dark.

For the Changing of the number plates of the existing vehicles, a time frame of two years will be given and it will be announced by the Transport department the manner in which it should be done.

For manufacturing the plates, a private company will be chosen by APSRTC by bidding system.  The plates will be stored at the premises of the Transport Department.

A self destructive sticker also will be affixed in addition to the number plate which shows the registration number, Engine number and Chassis number of the vehicle.  The total arrangement makes it difficult to change the registration number of a vehicle once it is allotted to it.
