Children's Day Celebrations From Today

India celebrates Jawahar Lal Nehru's birth day today through children's day celebrations.  Jawahar Lal Nehru was born on 14th November 1889 at Allahabad.  He was the first Prime Minister of India and best disciple of Mahatma Gandhi and actively participated in the freedom fight.  He was India's Prime Minister from the day one of its Independence till his death on 27th May 1964.

Jawahar Lal Nehru participated in all of the freedom movements.  He stood as an icon for his statesmanship and idealism.  To commemorate his work for the welfare, education and development of children, his birthday is celebrated by India as Baal Divas (Children’s day).  He was affectionately called as Chacha Nehru by children.  Children used to recognize him with his long coat with a red rose tucked in to its vest and Gandhi cap over his head.

He wrote letters to his daughter Indira Gandhi when she was 10 and studying in a boarding school in Mussori which became famous when the letters later were published in book form.  As a father he guided her to inculcate discipline and uprightness.  He showed love towards all children.

The Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy congratulated the AP children on the occasion of Children's day.  He said that children's film festival is being conducted from today till 20th November.  Hindi actor Ranbir Kapoor and Union Minister Manish Tiwari will attend in the inauguration ceremony of the Children’s film festival at Hyderabad.  30 films will be exhibited in 12 theaters during this week long festival.
