SC denies stay on HC's orders

The Supreme Court on Friday denied to give stay on the verdict of Andhra Pradesh High Court on appointment of new DGP. The court, however, said the state can include the name of DGP Dinesh Reddy once again in its proposed members' list, which will be given to the Centre. It may be recalled that a senior IPS officer (who recently tendered his resignation) filed a petition objecting Dinesh Reddy as the DGP. The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT), which accepted the petition, gave an award setting aside the appointment of Dinesh Reddy as DGP and asked the government to appoint another DGP. The state, however, approached High Court on this, which  upheld the decision of CAT.

Later, the government knocked the doors of the apex court and sought a stay on HC's order. The Supreme Court said it cannot give stay on this matter today. Therefore, the state will now have to send a list of members to the Union Public Service Commission out of which one will be selected to become the DGP.
