NMU calls of APSRTC strike

Based on the recommendations of the Andhra Pradesh state Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) to the government asking for the regularization of drivers and conductors, National Mazdoor Union (NMU) has called off its proposed strike. The leaders of the Union had met the APSRTC Managing Director A K Khan today and after the meeting announced the decision to call off the proposed strike. As per media sources Mr Khan seems to have given assurance that the corporation shall recommend to the government regarding the regularization of temporary drivers and conductors.

Mr Khan had also assured that the issue will be implemented in a phase wise manner once the green signal is ushered by the state government. NMU also informed that over 32 demands urged by the union were agreed by the corporation. As per sources a written agreement was also issued by the corporation to the union, in this regards. It may be noted that NMU demanded APSRTC to regularize drivers and conductors, failing which they would strike.

Several rounds of talks between APSRTC and NMU failed as the management had not made any clear statements regarding the regularization of 20,000 contract RTC employees-drivers and conductors, which is the primary demands of NMU (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)
