Vizag: First swine flu death

On Monday April 9, officials at Vizag government hospital said that a 23-year-old pregnant woman  died because of swine flu.

District Nodal Officer LBSH Devi said that the 23-year-old pregnant woman died last night when she was going through the treatment for H1N1 infection at the government hospital for chest and communicable diseases.

The victim first got admitted in a private hospital few days ago and later tested positive for H1N1. Laxmi said that a 30-year-old man was also tested positive for swine flu.

However, he was discharged last week after treatment. She also said that three cases whose samples had been sent to Mumbai for investigation are found to be negative to the virus.

In 2009, atleast 5 deaths out of 29 H1N1 reported cases occured in the district. At the same time in 2010 four deaths were reported. In 2011 there were no swine flu deaths reported in the district.
