Jr Doc call off strike

The stand-off between the AP Junior Doctors Association (JDA) and the state government seem to have ended temporarily. The impasse has been suspended by the doctors late last night after a meeting with the Government.

The JDA had detailed meeting once again with the Government committee, this time represented by Health Education Minister Kondru Murali Mohan on Tuesday at about 11 pm. The meetings that started late last night continued till 5 am today. The meeting was represented by ten Junior Doctors of JDA. Mediation was taken up by Nageswar, MLC, between the two groups.

Initially the JDA wanted a written approval on their demands. The talks took a positive turn, with the government assuring to take a decision on their demands shortly. The JDA agreed to suspend the impasse temporarily and assured to totally call off, once a written commitment was issued from the government.

It may be noted nearly 3,000 junior doctors, across the state, have been on strike for a month. They were demanding a hike in stipend and reduction in compulsory service in rural areas. Emergency medical services were severely hit in the state and many deaths were also reported.  The JDA even began the boycott of the emergency services from Friday evening.

Over 107 junior doctors are on strike in the Hyderabad. It is said that the number of operations came down to two or three daily, from 20 in the past. In the State capital, more than 70 senior doctors were roped in from different departments in Osmania and Gandhi hospitals. Similar strategy was adopted in other parts of the state too.              (With inputs from internet: AarKay)
