Jagan begins 48-hour fast in Armur

YSR congress party president Mr YS Jaganmohan reddy today began his 48-hour fast at Armur in Nizamabad district to highlight the problems of farmers.

Jagan, who had left Hyderabad with a 100-vehicle convoy to Armur around 9.30 am, reached the town around 7:45 pm and immediately began his limited version of fast.

After leaving his Jubilee Hills residence, Jagan garlanded the statues of his late father YSR and Dr. Ambedkar at Panjagutta and Bowenpally respectively. MLAs Konda Surekha and Sobha Nagi Reddy were among those who followed Jagan in the convoy from his residence.

Meanwhile, police had arrested several prominent leaders of the TRS in Medak and Nizamabad districts ahead of the fasting programme of Jagan as a precautionary measure. Students have called for a bandh today in Armur town.

Police had placed TRS senior leader Harish Rao under house arrest and have taken into custody several activists of the party as they threatened to block the entry of Jagan into Telangana districts.

Eggs, tomatoes hurled at Jagan convoy

TRS activists including some women, hurled eggs and tomatoes on the convoy of Jagan at Vinayak Nagar in Nizamabad when Jagan and his bandwagon had reached the town on way to Armur.

Jagan inaugurated his party office in Nizamabad town and also participated in a road show before he reached Armur.

Earlier, the TRS activists attacked Jagan convoy with stones at two places. Four vehicles in the convoy were damaged in the attacks.

No resistance from TRS

Compared to the opposition and resistance expressed by the TRS cadres to the Rytu Poru Bata of TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu in the Warangal district last week, there was no blockade of Jagan's convoy anywhere except for some token resistance.

Most of the TRS leaders had ensured a smooth passage of Jagan's convoy en route to Armur via Nizamabad.

The show of Jagan and lack of resistance from the pro-Telangana elements to his show had strengthened the doubts that Jagan and TRS were hand in glove with each other. (JUBS)
