‘Knighthood’ for Venkataraman Ramakrishnan

The British Government today announced the prestigious ‘Knighthood’ title to the American -settled Indian scientist Mr Venkataraman Ramakrishnan.

A researcher in Molecular biology, Mr Ramakrishnan, 58, was awarded the Nobel Prize for his research in chemical sciences in 2009.

The British government said in a statement it has decided to honour the Indian born scientist for his contribution to the science of Molecular biology. Mr Ramakrishnan is presently working as a professor in the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology at Cambridge.
Every year, the British government honours some distinguished personalities with the title ‘Knighthood’ for their contribution in important spheres. In the honours for the year 2012, two more Nobel Laureates are also being felicitated along with Ramakrishnan. (JUBS)
