If the rumors are true, then Britain's biggest football star David Beckham might be granted knighthood soon.
Apparently, the 38-year-old has been nominated for the New Year's Honors List. Once the standard checks are done, Beckham might be in for the Royal accolade. Officials are currently scrutinizing his £165 million fortune.
Once the former footballer’s finances are thoroughly reviewed by HMRC, he will be on the game for knighthood officially.
A source told The Sun On Sunday: 'HM Revenue and Customs look at the higher honours - specifically at the high earners like sports people - to see if there is anything they want to double check.’
Should his name appear among the frontrunners in the Honors List, the former England skipper will get to meet his close pal Prince William, when he receives his Knighthood at Buckingham Palace in the New Year.
