Nuclear capable Agni -1 successfully test fired

India today successfully test fired its indigenously developed surface-to-surface nuclear capable Agni-1 ballistic missile from the Integrated Test Range at Wheeler Island off Odisha.

The single staged missile, having a strike range of 700 km and powered by solid propellants, was test fired from a mobile launcher at 0925 hrs.

The missile has a specialized navigation system and can hit the targets with a high degree of accuracy, said the DRDO scientists at the launch site.

The missile path was tracked successfully by sophisticated radars and electro-optic telemetry stations located along the sea coast and ships positioned in the area.

The Agni-1 missile, weighing around 12 tonnes and having a length of 15-metres, can carry nuclear payloads up to 1000 kg.

The missile was jointly developed by advanced systems laboratory (ASL) and the premier missile development laboratory of the DRDO in collaboration with Defence Research Development Laboratory (DRDL) and Research Centre Imarat (RCI) and integrated by Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), Hyderabad. (JUBS)
