
Mining baron and former Karnataka Minister Mr Gali Janardhan Reddy and his mining company director Mr Srinivasa Reddy were today arrested at Bellary and taken to Hyderabad to be produced before the special CBI court.
A team of 10 senior CBI officials, led by its joint director Mr VV Lakshminarayana, swooped on the houses and premises of Gali brothers at Bellary and took him into custody.
The CBI registered cases against them under sections 120 B, 420, 379, 411, 427 and 447 of IPC for illegal mining and violating the mining licenses. Cases under Mining Act and the Forest Act were also registered against them.
Gold, cash recovered
The CBI teams seized Rs.3 Cr cash and 30 kg of gold from the residence of Gali Janardhan Reddy and Rs.1.5 Cr cash from the residence of Srinivasa Reddy during the raids. The officials have also seized the helicopter of Janardhan reddy.
Simultaneously, CBI officials have also conducted searches in the Parijatha apartments in Bangalore owned by Gali brothers and seized some documents, according to sources.
BJP washes off hands
Reacting to the arrest, the BJP leadership in Karnataka said in a statement that the arrest of Gali Janardhan Reddy was his personal matter. “There is nothing to comment on the arrest,” said the Karnataka Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda in the statement issued in Bangalore.
