Vizag was flooded by a second Indian ocean which emerged from the Visakhapatnam Airport. True the onlookers were aghast to see the crowds as the YSR Congress Chief In-Charge and the party’s MLA from Pulivendala, YS Vijayamma and her daughter Sharmila arrived at the airport, enroute to Narsannapet by bus. It was a roaring and tumultuous welcome of cadre, for the duo. And there was a sea of sympathizers at the meetings in Narasannapeta and Payakaraopet on Wednesday. The truth of so many dwellers in the districts, dawned on the onlookers, say critics.
Vijayamma reminded the saga of the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to many. With the by-polls around the corner on June 12 for 18 constituencies, YSR Congress was at cross roads as Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was remanded for judicial custody till June 11, on Monday. The distressed mother took up the campaign on her shoulders and marched ahead to carry forward the campaign in the place of her incarcerated son. Inspite of being criticized by the oppositions to the core, the brave lady, who never was seen out of her house when her husband and former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy was alive, took on the challenge.
Many believe that the troubled Mother was on a similar pedestal as the former Prime Minister was after `Emergency’ period (1975-77). Ms Gandhi had introduced emergency which had created several enemies within and outside. The result was after 19 months of emergency Indian National Congress lost the elections. Even public despised her and she lost in the elections too, in 1979. However unfazed Ms Gandhi inspite of being criticized for her autocratic rule, crusaded and retuned as PM three years later.
Earlier the distorted Mother said, "I had earlier written to Sonia Gandhi and the Prime Minister and now to the Chief Election Commissioner. I have knocked on all doors for justice for my family and now I am putting this matter before the people's court."
Re launching the campaign for the party the concerned Mother, received tumultuous welcome from the public. Speaking at the Narasannapet meeting, "It is the responsibility of the government to clarify the doubts about my husband's death. The inquiry over the crash was not conducted properly and I fear the trial against my son also will not be done in a fair manner". She added that the CBI showed unwanted hurry in arresting Jagan, even after the courts had sought to allay her son's fears of being taken into custody when he filed his anticipatory bail application.
At the Payakaraopet meeting the crowds were surging to the most unexpected levels, inspite of a two hour delay of arrival of Vijayamma. At the meeting the touched Mother said, "I bow to you for the affection you have shown to Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and Jagan. I don't know how to express my gratitude for your love and affection. I only came to say on behalf of Jagan that he would come out unscathed soon and there is no cause for worry."
The arrests have been a blessing in disguise before the by-polls, feel speculators for the YSR Congress party; however they also claim that the CBI court final verdict could downplay the party's chances, if it is against Jagan. But much depends on the campaigning of YS Vijayamma say sources. (With Inputs from Internet- Aarkay)
