It is an established fact that eating disorders have a greater risk of infertility. But a new study by the doctors at the America`s Harvard University and the University of Murcia, Spain have revealed through a study that junk food can make healthy young men infertile by damaging their sperm. The research involved analysis of sperm from hundreds of men aged between 18 and 22.
Each was assessed to ensure they were in optimum shape and had no other problems that may affect their reproductive system. All kept a journal of their daily diet for several months before being reassessed. Researchers found those who ate a high proportion of junk food like takeaways, fried foods, processed red meats, crisps, biscuits and cakes, and had poorer quality sperm than those on a nutritious daily diet. Their sperm was found less likely to survive the journey to fertilize an egg, even if the lads were a healthy weight and exercised.
According to the results a diet of wholegrain with lots of vegetables and fish produced the best quality. Low sperm count is a growing menace in the developed world and the main reasons being stressful life, eating disorders like brunches that outclass lunches, lack of exercise and environmental pollution, have to be under control
