Sandy threat to US, Prez declares emergency

The US president Barack Obama declared emergency in Washington DC, Maryland, New York and Massachusetts in the wake of hurricane Sandy. All federal buildings and even the metro system of Washington have been closed today. The local governments in these states distributed sandbags among residents. In order to ensure that traffic signals don't get knocked out, the officials kept generators in place. The weather report of a new channels even stated that several centimetres of rainfall is likely to be recorded in many states especially in Maryland.

Already the downtown area residents were asked to evacuate before 8 pm on Sunday while people in the low lying areas voluntarily evacuated the places. The reports indicated that hurricane Sandy is likely to have potentially devastating impact on eight states.

In New York, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority has shutdown its subway at 7 pm on Sunday as water is likely to inundate many low lying areas in the city. Also, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey suspended its trains. In Massachusetts, Governor declared emergency for Bay state. In Boston, schools will be closed. Even Harward University will remain closed on Monday.

In the wake of hurricane Sandy, many Indian nationals who have their kin and kith in the united states are reportedly worried.
