Adopted infant faces deportation after 30 years

In a pathetic case in US an infant who was adopted when the baby was 3 months old from India faces deportation, as the dead adopted mother failed to complete the document formality when alive. The girl who knows nothing about India or knows any one from this country of billion is to be deported, because of the documents row. The case is about 30-years-old Kairi Abha Shepherd of Salt Lake City, Utah. She was adopted from an orphanage in India, by her Utah mother, who died when Ms Shepherd was just eight years old. However her criminal record has also paved way for the stern reaction from the authorities.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement [ICE] started to deport Ms Shepherd in 2007 after she was jailed for a probation violation of a 2004 guilty plea to a felony cheque forgery to fuel a drug habit. Ms Shepherd's attorney Alan L. Smith says that she has no contacts in India: "I think she took a geography class in high school where she learned about India. She doesn't speak the language, she has no connection whatsoever. She's American through and through."

The Indian embassy on its side had requested the US authorities to `The Embassy has seen reports concerning Kairi Shepherd, and has requested the US authorities for facts on this matter.' "All the information available to us on this case indicates that it has a clearly humanitarian dimension, that cannot be ignored," Indian Embassy spokesman Virander Paul said in a statement Friday.  (With Inputs from Internet- Aarkay)
