When B-Town's reigning king Ranbir Kapoor join hands with the “Dabangg” director Abhinav Singh Kashyap, one would expect nothing less than another helluva entertainer — a full-blown masalathon replete with relentless humor and crazy dialogues. But sadly, “Besharam” offers little on the entertainment front, not because Kapoor and Kashyap fall short in their attempts, but because the film is terribly unoriginal and oh-so-painfully run-of-the-mill that makes the 142 long minutes a drag. There is absolutely nothing in the film that will compel you to sit through it! However, if cinema is your way of enjoying nachos and popcorn for you, Ranbir’s unforgivable ‘Besharam’ act is a harmless way to indulge.

Story :
Babli (Ranbir Kapoor) is an orphan and a street-smart, small-time car thief who swipes expensive cars. His life, however changes diametrically after he gets smitten by Tara (Pallavi Sharda), who initially snubs his advances. Things take a new turn, for better or worse, when he unknowingly ends up stealing Tara’s newly bought Mercedes.
He feels a pang of guilt for the first time at his wrongdoing and decides to make up for it. In his attempt to retrieve the car back, he ends up conning notorious Hawala King Chandela (Javed Jaffrey). In the attempt to get the car back, he steals a bag full of the gangster’s money.
With the cops – Chulbul and Bulbul Chautala (Rishi and Neetu Kapoor) eager to nab him and Chandela hounding him, will Babli be able to retrieve the car and the love of Tara?
Analysis :
“Besharam” has the spunk of “Dabangg”, but the scriptwriters stumble to add novelty to the tapestry, making it oh-so-formulaic. Riding on the mantra of “Dabangg”, Kashyap tries to dish out a movie that is just as forcefully loud and purposefully grotesque as his claim-to-fame movie.
For the most part, the story limps, the pace is slackened all through. The love angle too is flaccid and unconvincing. Romantic moments are rare and comes in spurts.
The plot is crippled and thus, the film fails to reap much from it. Characters drop in and take off whimsically which makes the story stumble badly!
Abhinav Singh Kashyap fails to live up to his hype! Lazy writing and shabby editing kills the fun here.
The screenplay is wobbly. There are too many songs in the film. Although, composer Lalit does a fair enough job with the tracks.
Performance :
Ranbir Kapoor as Babli is flawless. He accomplishes the glossy role riddled with cliches with flamboyance. He proves his versatility, impeccable comic timing and flair to deliver skillfully and uncompromisingly even in a bad film as this.
His co-star, debutante actress Pallavi Sharda is just about okay.
Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh Kapoor yet again impresses with their lovable chemistry.
Javed Jaaferi could have been superlative in his role of a gawdy don, but the screenplay doesn’t do much justice to him.
Final Word:“Besharam” is plagued by multiple setbacks. It lacks the spunk! Passable!
