UPA allies oppose T state

The congress party high command has been reportedly facing opposition from its allies in the UPA government soniaat the Centre to announce separate Telangana and is unable to take a decision towards division of the state.

Sources said that though the congress party has favoured the division of the state, Sharad Pawar-led NCP,Mamatha Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress and Karunanidhi-led DMK, the key allies of the congress at the Centre, have expressed concrete objections for declaring Telangana as it may lead to demands for division of their states.

Because of this reason, the congress party has not yet announced Telangana, though it is ready to grant separate statehood on its own.

It is said that Sharad Pawar, Mamatha Banerjee and Karunanidhi have already threatened the congress leadership that they would delink from the UPA and announce withdrawal of support if Telangana is announced. It is also true that these three states have been facing some sort of demands for division of their states. Creation of Telangana would ignite the suppressed agitations in their states, the three leaders feel.

It may be mentioned that the congress official spokesman Mr Ahmad Shakeel recently announced that congress stood for separate Telangana but the separate state can’t be formed with out arriving at a consensus among all political parties.
