The man who defines multi-talent in its truest sense turns 58 today. Kamal Haasan who started out as a great actor in Indian cinema went on to be a producer, director, dialogue writer, screenwriter, playback singer and also a lyricist. Born on November 7, 1954 Kamal has grown to heights unimaginable to the humankind.
Starting out as a child artist in several movies, the star forayed into the lead role of Apoorva Raagangal, a drama in 1975 playing a rebel youth who is smitten with love for an older woman. His movie Nayagan by Mani Ratnam, based on a story that is akin to “The Godfather”, is acclaimed by Times magazine to be one of the finest movies in India ever made.
Kamal has been felicitated several times in his career with most notable awards being the four National Awards, a Padmashri title. One of the nation's more premier and prized actors, Kamal has played every character imaginable, a retard, an innocent child, a scientist and a evil murderer. Not merely performing for a role, the actor could mold himself into any role and adapt himself to any character. His most notable films in Tamil include Vazhvey Maayam, 16 Vayadhiniley, Sigappu Rojaakkal, Moonram Pirai, Guna, Nayagan, Aalavandhan, Unnaipol Oruvan apart from many others which deserved and received critical acclaim.
He had been the best Indian actor for several of his movies. He is not just a serious action star, his witty timed comedy in movies like Pushpak, Michael Madana Kama Raju, Avvai Shanmugi, Pammal K Samandham, Panchathanthiram, Vasool Raja MBBS are rib tickling to say the least.
Career apart he has been a thorough gentleman in real live too. Humbled by success and undeterred by failures Kamal has earned himself the well deserved respect in Indian films. He has set goals for himself, worked very hard to achieve them, entertain the nation with his creative and completely genuine ideas which were often revolutionary. Movies like Bharateeyudu and Kalapani deserve a special mention for his extraordinary talent. He also set a record by acting in 10 very distinct characters in a science fiction Dasavathaaram.
The star is currently working on Viswaroopam, scripted and directed by himself.
