Wimbledon 2013 packs surprises

Following on the heels of a shocking turn of events that saw Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer crashing out of this year's Wimbledon even, its Serena's turn next. Defending champion Serena Williams was not just ousted from the event, but was defeated on court, much to the pleasure of players who now have a shot at the trophy.

Serena met her match at last in German player Sabine Lisicki. It was a display of pure energy as Lisicki smashed her way to the next round. Day 8 at the All England Club reinforced the surprising defeats of other powerful players Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka early in the championship.

Lisicki, seeded 23th, defeated current world number one Serena 6-2, 1-6, 6-4. Serena had reigned the championship five times in a row until now. Next, Lisicki will play the quarter-final against Kaia Kanepi of Estonia.
