Indian tennis player who is currently at 188th rank has a moment of honor battling against the world second seed Roger Federer in round two of French Open at Paris on Wednesday.
As imagined, the first and the only match between the two a couple of years ago in Dubai on hardcourts has resulted in an easy win for the Swiss champion of the world beating the 28 year old Indian in straight sets.
However, it was after this win that Somdev rose to international fame with his games that took him to the world ranking of 62. However, with his shoulder injury his career in 2012 was in jeopardy making him miss 18 months of tennis.
Somdev is a real warrior fighting over 500 ranks to reach his current rank after he started beyoond a top 600 rank. Regardless of his struggles it is not belittling to say that he stands little chance against the 17 time Grand Slam Champion Roger Federer.
His attitude however is what counts the most. "I'm never happy to lose a match," he said, "I go on court to win the match, whoever it is that I'm playing. The best I can do is give myself a chance to play these guys as often as possible, to win early matches and get myself in that position."
Will this cup help him regain his position under top 100? Let us hope so!
