A former State cricketer and footballer, R. Raghavan has passed away on January 13. He was 78. being from Coimbatore, Raghavan graduated in Commerce from Kovai Government Arts College. He played first division league for BRC, and then for State Bank of India after moving to Chennai, and that too for over two-and-a-half decades.
Apart from being an all-rounder who bowled off-spinners, he was a hard-hitting batsman. He even donned the State's colours in two Ranji Trophy matches while also being a member of the selection committee (under-19) for the State association. Moreover, Raghavan figured for State Bank in the senior division league and represented the State in the Santosh Trophy National championships for over five years being a popular footballer and a proficient goalkeeper.
We are unfortunate that we have lost such a great sport star!
