V V S Laxman will be missed on Thursday

The Gentle man of Indian Test Cricket, V V S Laxman,  will be missed when India take on New Zealand at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. Because at the same stadium last week the great gun announced his retirement. Laxman would be missed in the dressing room and on the field, on Thursday, when the first of the two test series would be played. The event will be notably significant for senior players like Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Vireandera sehwag, M S Dhoni and Zaheer Khan, as the match is being played at the great man's back yard. Even the oppositions were encouraged by his conspicuous absence, as they sensed danger from this stalwart, as always.

Laxman's retirement came as a rude shock to the sport lovers, as he was speculated to resign after the series. But some major controversies that troubled the great gun resulted in the retirement. Many speculations of unwanted comments by many surfaced after his bow out, turning the gentleman's game into business gambit.

Laxman played in 134 test matches and has scored nearly 17 centuries while amassing 8,781 runs, which also had 56 half centuries. The batting prowess also played some splendid knocks in his 86 ODIs. He scored six centuries and 10 half centuries in his total score of 2,338 runs. The sad departure of this maestro does hurt Indian fans in general. But the worse part was he was always in the shadows of Master Blaster Sachin. Ofcourse not that the latter had suppressed him, but the latter's records seem to pile up over our Laxman. Eventually he was lost amidst the records. True Laxman won acclaims more from global players and media than our own, pathetic. (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)
