Viswanath Anand claims world title in a tie-breaker

Indian Grand Master Viswanath Anand retains his crown at the World Chess Championship held at Moscow. On Wednesday, Indian GM beats his opponent Israel GM Boris Gelfand. Moscow in its bid to bring back the lost glory of the Soviet era, hosted the $ 2.55 million World Chess Championship. This match has prize money of $ 2.55 million, the highest stake in the history of the game.  Anand will receive Rs.8.10 Cr and Gelfand Rs.5.40 Cr. The three week schedule of 12 matches ended here, amid pompous grandeur with Anand retaining his crown.

The tie-breaker after the two GMs ended all the games in a draw was crucial crux to haul the prize money and claim the title, at the State Tretykov Gallery. After the first three games Anand had an edge over, with 2-1. In the fourth game he consolidated his position and claimed the world title. In spite of an advantageous position in the fourth game Gelfand failed to make over and lost the war.

For the Indian GM this is his fifth world title and the latest is after his last title at Bulgaria in 2010. There he beats Veselin Topalov. Anand started with a first round loss but won the title winning the last game with black pieces.   (With Inputs from Internet- Aarkay)
