
South Africa, after bundling out the West Indies for 222 runs in their first innings in 47.3 overs in the World Cup Group-B league match being played at the Feroze Shah Kotla in Delhi today, lost two quick wickets in Hashim Amla and Jacques Kallis in their second innings.
South Africans were on 140 for three at the end of 29 overs when reports last came in.
Earlier, South Africa forced West Indies to close their innings for 222 in 47.3 overs as 31-year-old leg spinner Tahir, making his debut in international cricket, scalped four important wickets for just 41 runs.
Darren Bravo remained the top scorer for the West Indians with 73 after South African skipper Graeme Smith won the toss and asked the Caribbeans to bat first.
South Africa launched the bowling attack with spinner Johan Botha who sent the dangerous batsman Gayle to the dressing room with his third ball. Gayle, while playing on the leg side, only succeeded in edging the ball to Jacques Kallis at the slip.
