Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni will soon join the band of high profile celebrities- actor Mohan Lal, former cricket captain Kapil Dev and India’s batting wizard Sachin Tendulkar-who were honoured with ranks by the Army and Air Force in the past few years.
Chief of the Army Staff General V.K. Singh offered an honorary commission in the Territorial Army to Dhoni when he along with his team mate Suresh Raina called on him at the Army House in Delhi Tuesday evening.
Accepting the offer, Dhoni told the Army Chief that he was always keen to join the Army, had a number of friends in the Service and interacted with a number of people serving in the Army.
Gen. Singh appreciated Dhoni for the remarkable performance of the Indian team in winning the World Cup and praised his quality of leadership, army officials said.
Mohanlal and Kapil Dev were granted honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army while Sachin Tendulkar was honoured with the title Group Captain by the Indian Air Force.
