Cricket minnows Ireland today posted their second victory in the World Cup Group B as they catapulted to a 6 wicket win over Netherlands at the Eden Gardens in Calcutta, though it would not take them to the quarter finals of game.
Ireland, chasing a grand total of 306 for victory after asking the Dutch to bat first, smashed its way to reach the target as all rounder Paul Stirling cracked a hard hitting 101 out of 72 balls.
Stirling and captain William Porterfield added a great 177 for the first wicket and all their batsmen contributed their might for the victory before Kevin O'Brien went for a huge six over long-off to overhaul the Dutch total with 14 balls to spare.
‘We are happy that we have ended our World Cup campaign on a winning note,” said the captain after winning the match.
