After India won the Wednesday’s match against the cricket baby Netherlands by 5 wickets in their World Cup Group B encounter at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi and confirmed its berth in the quarter finals topping the table with seven points out of four matches it played with a net run rate of 0.992, Australian vice-captain Michael Clarke said India still remained the favourites for winning this tournament.
Like India, Australia is yet to lose a game in the present World Cup and the Australian team is better placed as it won all the matches it played till now. It is true that India also did not lose a match but its match against England ended in a tie giving an upper hand to Australia in comparison with India.
“India still remains the favourite for winning the world cup as it has the home advantage. I am sure they have a strong squad,” Clarke told sports journalists today in Bangalore.
Australia, aiming to take the world cup for the fourth time in succession, is having a practical approach this time. Clarke was very cautious when he said that they were happy with the way they have been playing but it is a long, long way to go in the tournament.
