Indian team given original trophy, says ICC

wc1Denying media reports that the 2011 Cricket World Cup winners India were given the duplicate trophy as the original was lying with the Indian Customs Authorities for non-payment of customs duty, the International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive Haroon Lorgat has said the Indian team was given the hundred per cent original World Cup for winning the tournament and the reports to the contrary were false.

He said that ICC has a specific trophy for ever tournament and the particular trophy meant for the winners of the 2011 world cup tournament was given to the Indian winning team. “The trophy which was held up with the Indian customs authorities was the replica of the trophy that travels from place to place during tournaments,” he clarified. “That was meant for promotional purposes only.”

He said he was disgusted with the false media reports that the winning team was given a fake trophy.
