Asteroid to come closest to earth

Don't be surprised tonight if you are on your roof with your telescope and spot something as big as a football field in the sky. That is not a UFO but an asteroid DA14, which is going to be closest an asteroid has ever come than the geosynchronous orbit which is at 35,000km.

In India, the asteroid will put on a show in the sky at 11.53 precisely and would be the brightest at 1:20 am in the night. Starting to rise from the southern sky, it would continue towards the pole star. However, you need to have a powerful binocular or a small telescope to watch the asteroid which is expected to pass through the constellation Leo.

Delhites may not witness the beautiful phenomenon as clouds may play a spoilsport. Enthusiasts have not organized any public watch since it is expected to rain.

There is no chance of the asteroid colliding with earth but there is a chance for casualties from the debris of the satellites that the rock may hit.

Here is a video demonstration of the asteroid passing through the orbit of Earth.
