By the time March arrives, no mobile phone user will be tormented by the extra service charges he would have to shell from his mobile phone balance for the roaming services, that significantly add up to the price of the average monthly bill of the consumers all over the nation.

The telecom department has made the announcement that they had plans to skip roaming charges altogether long ago and seems like the department has been taking up the issue pretty seriously.

However, the telecom operators are not very pleased with the decision and are in fact opposing the decision since roaming charges add up to almost 10% of their total revenues. They have also threatened  the government that they would increase the call tariffs if the new changes are forced up on them.

A note from internal DoT states that the department should complete this movie within the next three months on November 23.

Another major change in the way telecom operators work in the country would also be made. The functionality of MNP would be widened to allow the users to port from any network to any network without worrying about the base circle they are on. This means that a person using a particular number in Andhra Pradesh can choose to use a network in Delhi or anywhere else too with the same number and without roaming charges.

The Cellular Operators Association of India has demanded that the DoT should take appropriate measures to resolve the current policy-related issues such as the unified license before another reform is made.
