Bulk SMS (short message service), is it a boon or a bane. As technology brings in it's latest advancements there are side affects bundled along with it. And they have proved hazardous in the recent pasts. There were times when many mobile users felt disturbing when frequent promotional SMS were sent as bulk SMS.  However the massive impact was felt when a malicious SMS was doing the rounds, as the country celebrated its 66th Independence day on August 15. After some riots in Assam, the North Eastern residents of the state stayed in various places in the country, received SMS that there could be repercussions of the riots felt across. Fearing such fake bulk SMS propaganda, mass exodus of Assamese was noticed across the south mainly from Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, in the last three days.

This proves that technology in the hands of miscreants could be disastrous. In fact the Ministry of Home affairs (MHA) was serious over the issue and the government even banned bulk SMS for the next fortnight. Though one would be relieved from promotional bulk SMS for the neat few days, it is alarming weighing the side affects of technology advancements. SMS and MMS were much used by the youth to pass on their feelings to the opposite sex mainly. Even many of us use these services for communication, as they are more economical and fast for telegram type messages.

Bulk SMS or SMS is a service component of phone, web, or mobile communication systems, using standardized communications protocols that allow the exchange of short text messages between fixed line or mobile phone devices. Earlier the pagers were using the technology and later after the advents of mobile phones the technology took over mankind like a swarm.
