This is like a dream come true. I never ever imagined that I would get to experience zero gravity in my life. I am looking forward to meeting the other finalists, says Sachin.
The contest for designing a science experiment that could possibly be performed in the space, given the atmospheric conditions present there was conducted by well known online giant `You Tube.’ And India’s 18-year old engineering student Sachin Kukke has won the contest as announced by the organizers on Wednesday. Sachin in his unique experiment showed how to measure thermal conductivity of Ferrofluids in space conditions. He is the only Indian from the Asia-Pacific region.
"Sachin of BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore, is the regional winner from India in the 17-18 year-old category for his experiment, which aims to measure the thermal conductivity of ferrofluids in microgravity," the US-based You Tube, a subsidiary of global search engine Google, said in a statement here. Sachin was felicitated at the Google India tech hub.
His experiment was one among the nine other experiments contributed by Indian students in the top sixty, participating from 80 countries, October 2011 by YouTube. The event is organized by You Tube, in partnership with global PC maker Lenovo and the Vienna-based Space Adventures, which organized flights for the world's first private space explorers. Sachin shall join the five other winners from different geographical regions in Washington DC March 22 to take the zero gravity flight and participate in a series of events, including a special tour of the Udvar-Hazy air and space museum at Dulles and an awards ceremony at the Newseum.
