Gold Poop bacteria?

The times of the world are a little down on the economy side but there is one bacteria that can enjoy the riches so much that it poops gold. A bacteria named Cupriavidus metallidurans is capable of making gold after feasting on a toxic metal, Gold Chloride, also known as liquid gold.

However, don't expect to pet the bacterium and clear your due or have a gold bathroom. The bacterium itself is extremely rare. The scientists explained, "This microbial magician, named Cupriavidus metallidurans, when placed in a minilab full of gold chloride, a nasty toxin, gobbled up the poison and, in about a week, processed it out as 24-karat nuggets of the precious yellow metal."

Getting your hands on liquid gold is as hard as buying the gold itself if not harder. The bacterium is also a very strong one, and 25 times as tolerant to the toxic metal than it was earlier expected to be.

An art exhibition is displaying this rare feat of the bacteria pooping gold at the Prix Ars Electronica in Austria through Oct. 7 where it is receiving an honorable mention.
