In a huge embarrassment to the BJP, Congress has won the Bellary seat in the by election which  actually belongs to the former. By-elections for three state legislature seats were held because the lawmakers from these constituencies contested and won May's national elections and became parliamentarians.

While in the remaining two seats, Congress and BJP are leading in one each.  This victory means a lot to the Congress party and specially to Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah who has been criticised within the party for not taking measures to strengthen the Congress in state. This is a shock for BJP as Bellary has been their bastion.
