Govt Cuts Off Deadline to use Old Notes to Dec 2

In the new update of demonetization of old notes, the government has cut short the deadline. Previously government said that Rs. 500 notes can be used at petrol pumps and for buying airline tickets till December 15. But now deadline will  end on December 2.

"With effect from December 3, 2016, old Rs. 500 notes cannot be used for the purchase of petrol, diesel, and gas at the stations operating under authorization of public sector oil marketing companies and for buying airline tickets at airport counters", a government notification said.

After the deadline was increased twice, the last one state that old 500 rupee notes can be used only for payment of utility bills like electricity and water, school fees, pre-paid mobile top-up, fuel purchase, and airline ticket booking.

Until December 15, the old note can be used only for paying utility bill and for buying railway ticketing counters. Now, Rs.500 notes will not be allowed for paying toll at national highways from December 3.

Sources said, "the move to curtail use of old notes at petrol pumps and highway toll plazas follows reports of the facility being misused to launder black money."
