PM Modi Participates in Yoga Event at Chandigarh

On the occasion of the International Day of Yoga, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday urged people to embrace yoga for better physical and mental health.

Modi led the second International Yoga Day celebrations as a part of treating diseases like diabetes through the spiritual discipline. Over 30,000 people performed yoga ‘asanas’ in the event held at the Capitol Complex in Chandigarh with tight security.

“Make yoga a part of your life,” he told thousands of yoga enthusiasts. “Just as the mobile phone is now a part of your life, make yoga too a part of your life.”

Addressing the mass gathering, the Prime Minister said that he had proposed June 21st as the ideal day for Yoga Day celebrations because in many parts of the world, this day is quite long and is closer to the earth.

The Prime Minister added that the International Yoga Day had become a mass movement like no other in the world.

He said “I want to request trainers who are associated with yoga, from this public platform. From next year when we celebrate yoga day, in this one year, you continue to do what you do for yoga but focus on one subject and this is my subject i.e diabetes and yoga.”

“Yoga is not only a way to get rid of a disease but it also guarantees wellness and for a holistic development, yoga is a great way,” he said.

Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu, New Delhi MP Meenakshi Lekhi and LG Najeeb Jung were among those present at the event.
