A 6.6-magnitude earthquake hit off the east coast of Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula this morning, but was not expected to cause damage or fatalities, US experts said.
According to the US Geological Survey, the quake was struck at 3:50 am (local time) and was at a depth of 29 kilometres, with its epicentre located 128 miles south of Ust’-Kamchatsk Staryy.

On the official website of USGS, it was mentioned that, perceived shaking on the peninsula was light with no damage expected.
Reportedly, with a depth of 65.0 km, the epicenter was initially determined to be at 53.995 degrees, north latitude and 162.995 degrees, east longitude.
The Russian authorities had taken precautionary measures, as the tremors were predicted on the beforehand.
Kamchatka Peninsula region is scarcely populated. Kremlin’s disaster management unit had evacuated all the small population thriving near the eastern coast.
