Suicide bomber attacked Saudi Arabia mosque

A suicide bomber attacked a mosque in Shia populated eastern Saudi Arabia, which took away several number of lives and other left wounded.

Four people were killed and 18 wounded in the horrifying attack. The near by residents said that the mosque belonged to the minority Shia community.

During the main weekly prayers, the security personnel prevented two bombers from entering inside the Al-Rida mosque in the Mahasen neighborhood of Al-Ahsa city, the ministry said in a written statement.

“When security approached to intercept them, one of them responded by blowing himself up at the mosque entrance while an exchange of fire took place with another. He was injured and arrested. A suicide belt was found in his possession,” it said. No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

In late October, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing at a Shia mosque in Najran city, in which at least one person was killed and 16 others were injured.

In the early August, for an attack at a mosque, inside a special forces headquarters in the city of Abha, ISIL claimed the responsibility. Fifteen people were killed and nine were wounded in that deadly attack.

Shia accounts to 10 to 15 percent of Saudi Arabia's population. The minority group, many of whom, live in the country's oil-producing east, previously have been targeted in attacks by ISIL, which views them as heretics.

The security has been increased after the deadly attacks in the last year, claimed by the Islamic State group against Shia mosques in the kingdom's east. The community guards over there, even inspects the visitors to houses of worship.
