Dengue in Delhi: 1800 affected, 9 dead

After a short break, dengue has again attacked the country. Currently, the disease is getting viral in Delhi, day by day.

As of now, there are more than 1800 dengue cases registered in Delhi and nine of them are already dead.  

Speaking about the recent death, the doctors of Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital in Delhi said, “The 43 year old patient was brought to the hospital, while he already had internal bleeding. His platelets were less than 20000. Though he was admitted immediately and the doctors made many attempts, all those were remained as failure, as we could not save him from losing the breath.”

Out of the 1800 registered dengue cases, 600 cases are reported in the last week alone. North Municipal Corporation registered 776 cases, which is the highest number of dengue cases and South with 499 and 150 dengue cases are registered in the East municipal corporation.  

Kejriwal response on Dengue in Delhi

Responding to this, on Monday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called an emergency meeting of MLAs, who are chairpersons of ‘rogi kalyan samitis’ and asked them to visit all the hospitals, twice a day and console all the patients meeting them, till the Dengue calms down in the city. “Ensure that, they have enough medicines and the hospital is clean and all the doctors are available in time,” Kejriwal said.  

Helpline for Dengue in Delhi

Satyendra Jain, the health minister also launched a 24/7 helpline number, 23307145 and said that, this number will provide all the relevant information about dengue and its treatment.

Speaking further, Jain said, “The panic about Dengue among the people, is putting a huge burden on the hospitals.”

Lack of fumigation- A main reason for Dengue in Delhi

Moreover, a lot of people are lacking the fumigation and this lack will not longer be tolerated by the government. He instructed the commissioners to take strict action on those, who are responsible for this lapse.

Regarding this, he directed three of the commissioners to ensure MCD workers walk to every house to ensure that, all sources of stagnant water are treated.

Before it spreads to other states, hope all the states in the country take the precautionary measures and the government officials initiate in this regard.
