Onions Rs.1 per kg

“How come you put this in the top news man? It should actually be in the joke of the day section right?” If this is going on in your mind, please out a break to your thoughts and read the story below.

Ninjacart, a Bangalore based mobile app, is offering the onions for Rs.1 per kg, to promote their app.

On Thursday, Ninjacart and Delhi based SRS Grocery declared that, they are ready to sell the onions at Rs.1 per kg, where the actual price is somewhere around Rs.80.

But Ninjacart is just putting 1 kg aside per person, while the SRS Grocery is trying to bring it to 2 kg each.
Speaking about this, SRS Grocery CEO, Pratik Jindal said, “Last week when we offered onions at Rs 19 a kg, we received good traction. We saw around 4,000 orders of which 3500 orders had onions in their list. Our philosophy is to invest in the consumer and bring them the best deals. Hence we are now offering them at Re.1 per kg.”

Online stores are cashing the onions price hike situation

Right from knowing that the onion prices are going high, the online grocery stores are trying to cash the situation to the maximum. Regarding this, the co-founder at Pepper Tap, Navneeth Singh told that, they witnessed the huge sales, when they sold the onions at a discounted price of Rs. 40 in the last week. In those days, they sold 3 tonnes of onions.

Reacting to these types of short term offers, Nagaraja Prakasam, an angel investor said, “This type of pricing model is just to gain traction, but it is to be known that, it is covered by the customer acquisition cost.”

Onions Rs.1 per kg: No customer acquisition cost, it is to promote our app

Countering the comments of the above, Ashutosh Vikram, Ninjacart co founder said that there is no such customer acquisition cost, it is just to promote our app in the public. He further expressed the confidence to sell about 10 tonnes of onions over the weekend.

Whatever be the intention of the online grocery stores, finally the public needs are getting cleared with the minimum cost. Recently the Telugu states received subsidy onions from the central government. More than that, it would be better if the prices come down soon.
