Centre releases Rs 1,105 crore to Telangana

The Centre has given its nod to the proposed Telangana State health implementation programme, under National Health Mission, and announced Rs 1,105 crore for the year.

Speaking on the occasion, National Health Mission director Jyothi Buddha Prakash said, “The current outlay is Rs 313 crore more than the allocation made during the last financial year. Six key components have been proposed under the scheme consisting of Maternal and Child Health (MCH), Immunisation, Disease Control, Mission Flexipool, Infrastructure and Maintenance and the like.”

For implementing Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram(RBSK), Rs 431 crore has been allocated under Mission Flexipool. Through this programme, various health sub- centres, village health and sanitation, hospital development society, free diagnostic services and drugs will be funded. 

What is the aim of Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram?

“The RBSK is meant to identify three levels of thirty birth defects in children at community- facility and school levels. Along with this, under Janani Suraksha Yojana, incentives will be provided to the prospective mothers. Rs 278 crore are allocated for Maternal and Child Health (MCH) component of the scheme.”

“To further strengthen the immunisation programme, To control communicable diseases like malaria, dengue, swine flu and the like, and non communicable ones like diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular, would be implemented with an outlay of Rs 76 crore,” Prakash said.

UPHC’s in municipal corporations too

Rs.169 crores are approved to set up Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHCs) in Telangana, out of which 96 new UPHCs will be set up in Greater Hyderabad with an estimated cost of Rs 45 crore. Even municipal corporations and municipalities are also going to have UPHC’s from now on.

Rs.107 crores are released to PHCs and MCHCs, which also includes providing ultra sound scanners to 14 area hospitals. Finally in the major districts of Telangana like, Warangal, Adilabad, Khammam, Karimnagar, Mahabubnagar and Medak, the National Tobacco Control Programme will also be implemented.
