Cops to use 'body worn cameras'

The Hyderabad Traffic Police [HTP] which is more active in using the technology to bring down the traffic offences and traffic related issues, will soon use 'Body Worn Cameras' during enforcement work under its 'Smart Policing' initiative. Briefing about this new initiative, Additional Commissioner of Police [Traffic] Jitender said, “the high resolution audio-visuals will be recorded in the camera and stored in a memory card. Feeds can be seen live from the police control room through 4G technology.”

Each body worn camera would cost around Rs 1.5 lacs and it is also effective during nights. The Telangana government has sanctioned Rs 21 crores to the traffic department and these funds will be utilised for setting up 'Automatic Integrated Traffic Management System'. Modern sign boards, interceptor vehicles with 360 degree cameras to detect violations are among the new initiatives planned  by the traffic department.

Meanwhile the officials also said the cashless payment has garnered every good response and on Monday, a sum of Rs 19 lakhs was collected . ACP Jitender thanked people for using this cashless payment and as part of friendly civilian initiative, he appealed to the people to complaint if any traffic cop asks for documents of vehicle. “Only SI ranked cops are allowed to ask documents of vehicle and if lower ranked cops ask for documents, it should be brought to our notice through the official Facebook page of Hyderabad traffic police,” he added.
