BJP wins Trust Vote

Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis led BJP government had won the confidence motion in the Assembly by voice vote and crossed the hurdle. Though Shiv Sena and Congress voted against the BJP, it was Nationalist Congress Party which remained neutral and did not participate in the voting. The lone Maharashtra Navnirman Sena [MNS] MLA too backed the BJP in the trust vote.

In a huge twist, Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde is Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly and this suggests that the party is not going to be part of BJP government anymore. Also the Congress party demanded the Speaker to seek for a fresh confidence motion and termed it as 'murder of democracy.' Former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan said, they would bring this to the notice of Maharashtra Governor and also look for legal options.

The ex-cm also vowed that his party will not allow the House to function, if a new confidence motion is not introduced. BJP has won 122 seat out of the 288 Maharashtra Assembly but as one leader died and one more leader being elected as Speaker, BJP's tally reduced to 120. As the NCP abstained from voting, it favored BJP from winning the confidence motion.
