Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shindi announced that the Cabinet approved the proposal of carving out of Telangana from the State of Andhra Pradesh.
As per the Note on Telangana, a separate State with 10 districts and Hyderabad as Joint Capital for both the States for 10 years is approved by the Union Cabinet Ministers. The decision was taken in the meeting held at the residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh between 5.30 and 7.30 pm on Thursday. As the Note presented by the Home Minister has successfully passed the first stage, he announced it officially.
The Cabinet also decided to appoint GoM to look in to the impacts of bifurcation and deal with them. It is not decided who will lead the GoM but the report will be complet within 6 weeks of its taking up.
Another important point is that the Andhra State will not have any powers on the administration of the City of Hyderabad as that will be the Capital of Telangana. Even revenue sharing also will not exist. It is because the financial aid that will be given to the other State than Telangana will be arrived at based on the revenue of Hyderabad. But security measures will be taken to safeguard the people of all three regions.
The State other than Telangana will have to depend on the funds from the center but no revenue sharing can be expected from Hyderabad.
But the same Shinde made misleading comments during the day that the Cabinet note is not signed by him and the final nod was received from the high command. He also said that the Antony Committee report was not concluded.
