The city of Hyderabad is the hot topic of discussion at Delhi, where its fate is being determined. If reports from the national media are to be believed, the UPA government is actively considering a Union Territory status for the pearl city.
Comments made by AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh were being minutely dissected, which led to the speculation. When asked about the status of Hyderabad, he reportedly said that the matter of a UT status to Hyderabad would be discussed by the AK Antony committee.
Adding fuel to fire, reports suggest that Digvijay did not deny any questions on Hyderabad's UT status. For many days now, it is being said that the city would be declared a Union Territory to address the concerns of both Seemandhra and Telangana.
Diggy noted that the decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradhesh was taken after securing the support of a majority of the political parties. After the announcement to split AP, it was decided that Hyderabad would serve as the common capital for 10 years.
However, recent speculations are weighing towards a UT status for Hyderabad with Vijayawada or Vishakapatnam as Andhra Pradesh capital, Hyderabad being Telangana's capital at the same time.
