As expected and feared by the Government before announcing the State bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh to carve out a separate Telangana State, a separate Gorkha Land demand is going on in the State of West Bengal.

Its impact of it can be seen in Darjeeling where an indefinite protest reached 6th day today due to which normal life there is disrupted.  Markets and shops are totally closed in Darjeeling where rice and wheat are distributed through 11 West Bengal Government outlets.  

About 800 protesters were arrested so far.  But the rising demand day by day for the separate State could not be arrested.  The announcement of giving Telangana Statehood made by the Congress party brought the Gorkha Land demand to the surface again as it is believed that the only way to get it is through protests and strikes.
