Some unidentified persons severed the statue of Rajiv Gandhi at midnight and the parts of head and one hand was thrown on to the road in Jangareddigudem in West Godavari District.
The protests in Seemandhra have gone over the brim on Thursday. Apart from the picketing, rallies, slogan shouting and sittings, the protesters also targeted the statues of Nehru and Indira Gandhi family members.
Jawahar Lal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi statues were either burnt or broken in many districts. The problem was more in Ananthapur and Dharmavaram. In Ananthapur thousands came out to the road protesting Congress party’s decision. Police had to resort to lathi charge at Krishna Devaraya University Campus.
Same scene is witnessed in Rajahmundry with the anger vented out on the flexes with Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi photos and statues or Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi by either burning them or by destroying them.
In proddutur in Kadapa districts a garland made of chappals was hanged to the neck of Rajiv Gandhi’s statue. Violent scenes were witnessed in Kurnool district also.
At many places the statues were defaced, arms were cut and thrown on the roads and burnt. Police stopped at some places but after some time the agitators came back to destroy the statues.
DGP gave a stern warning to the agitators that destroying the statues of the National leaders will be deemed as serious offence and the miscreants will be treated with harshness.
