River Godavari at the temple town of Bhadrachalam receded shortly yesterday giving a false indication but again going high. The height at Bhadrachalam reached 55.9 feet and the third alert call is still continuing. As Taliperu water at the dam near Charla reached 71 feet, gates were opened to release 64000 cusecs of water in to Godavari.
The Temple at Bhadrachalam is surrounded three sides by Godavari waters and drain system of the town near temple.
Kunavaram Mandal near Bhadrachalam is hard hit in the floods. About 200 houses are submerged in Godavari and the rehabilitation camps are poorly serving purpose. Flood water went in to the houses at Tekulaboru, Shabari Kothagudem and Udaya Bhaskara colonies.
Panchayat elections that are to be conducted on 23rd at Bhadrachalam division is considered for the postponement due to floods.
